TODAY'S SPEAKER (October 4th, 2023): Josh Vanada, leadership and business growth coach. He has over 15 years of experience as a business leader, board chair, and teacher. He has developed the tools, strategies, and experience to help turn struggling organizations and organizational visions into reality. He blends his own learnings and techniques with proven tools to help organizations thrive, turning underperforming companies into vibrant success stories.
Josh described to the club "A better way to hire". He said that the biggest challenges that his clients face are related to the workforce. How to attract, hire, onboard, and retain the right people. He shared six integral tips to help with the hiring process. 1 - Assessments; verify what someone is telling you about themselves. 2 - Rely on wise counselors; have multiple individuals with different roles and responsibilities interview a candidate. 3 - Give the candidate homework; test for competency by giving an assignment that this candidate would be asked to perform. 4 - Provide a job scorecard; what does a good job look like? Write it down and provide it to the candidate for discussion. 5 - Have a conversation, not an interrogation; allow ample time for everyone to speak. Create an environment that is natural for conversation. 6 - Seek Referrals; ask your top performers, service providers, friends, professional networks, and anyone else you like, know, and trust for possible employees.

: Carolyn Dibbert - but alas, she did not win the pot. I did not personally see the card she pulled but I believe it was a five or six or seven of hearts. There seemed to be a lot of hearts on the card from my angle, but also, my eyesight isn't what it used to be.

HAPPY BUCKS: There were no happy bucks recorded today. It was a gloomy day, and no one felt happy.

Fun Fact of the Week (week 2 - please see last weeks bulletin for that fun fact): The largest Egyptian pyramid is the Great Pyramid of Giza which is 449 feet tall and 756 feet long on each side. At the time it was constructed the pyramid was 481 feet high, but over time lost 32 feet from the top. It was the tallest man made structure in the world until the the Lincoln Cathedral in 1311 at 525 feet. There were a few other church's that exceeded that height through 1880 and then the Washington Monument was completed in 1884 at 555 feet, and the the Eiffel Tower in 1889 at 1,024 feet. It's mind blowing to think that the Pyramid of Giza was pretty much the tallest structure in the world, built at the latest in 2500bc (probably closer to 5000bc) and the next real structure with any significant height advantage was built in 1889 (4000- 6000 years later). The pyramid weighs 5.7 million tons consisting of over 2.3 million blocks of stone - some excavated over 500 miles from the site. Scholars estimate the pyramid at over 4,500 years old, with some dating it thousands of years older than that. Lastly, when constructed the pyramid had a white limestone covering making it shine like a huge gem in the sunlight.
