Our Speaker today discussed two main topics. This first is his passion for bringing and nurturing Civility in political discourse. We do not have to agree, and debate on issues is healthy, but to vilify and dehumanize those you disagree with is damaging to our country.
Greg is a leader in the RI Civic Leadership Program where high school students get to talk to journalists about how government works and the roles of general officers in government. Students learn to discuss their differences and the political climate without being dismissive.
Greg also reviewed with us how elections are kept secure and accurate. RI post election audit is one of the most comprehensive in the country and is a model for other states. He reviewed how irregularities are noted and addressed. Elections are open to public review and are live streamed for transparency. Once the votes are in, The Board of Elections manages the votes and it is no longer under the Secretary o States control.
