Robin "Red" Brittain Memorial Community Service Award

The goal of this Award is to honor the memory of the late Robin "Red" Brittain (1927 – 2016), who had a positive impact on the lives of the citizens of East Bridgewater. Born in Revere and raised in Whitman, Red made East Bridgewater his home starting in 1946. He founded Brittain, Inc., a lumber company, and in 1964 founded Toll Road Truck Equipment, building truck bodies that earned him renown up and down the East Coast. Red enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1945, serving as part of the occupying force in China and stationed in Okinawa with troops preparing for the invasion of Japan before the war's end.

A founding member of the Rotary Club of the Bridgewaters in 1970, Red served as its fifth president and, in nearly every year since, as Sergeant-at-Arms. He became known throughout Rotary circles as the "Flag Man," maintaining and displaying more than 125 flags of the nations of the world at Rotary events across New England. He believed in service to his fellow man, assisting the Club in achieving its objectives of goodwill for the benefit of the communities it served and the sustaining of projects worldwide.

This Award is created to confer distinction upon a graduating senior who is an East Bridgewater resident who has achieved accomplishments through varied activities of community service and plans to further his/her education either academically or technically following high school graduation from East Bridgewater Junior/Senior High School.
