The family of Club President Bruce Marquis notified Club Members last evening June 22, 2020 that Bruce Edward Marquis had passed away early in the evening at his home surrounded by his adoring family and holding the hand of his loving wife Lucy.  Bruce had bravely fought his cancer and was a active and vibrant member of the club and his community until just before his passing. Bruce was serving his second term as Club President.  He joined Rotary in 1986 and was member of this club from 2000. Bruce is a Paul Harris fellow and was being awarded a second Paul Harris at the club's installation scheduled for June 24, 2020. Bruce was a dedicated Rotarian who served his club and Rotary District 7950 in several capacities. Perhaps, one of his most important contributions was the establishment of the Citizen of the Year for each of the three Bridgewater Communities. This award is given annually to the heroes in our communities who are making a difference. This fall the club will be conducting its 21st Citizen of the Year recognition and the East Bridgewater Award will henceforth be known as the "Bruce Marquis Citizen of the Year Award."

Bruce lived the Rotary's motto, "Service Above Self" in every way. He worked hard to improve his community, provide leadership for his Club and District and was always willing to assist in helping to improve people's lives. He will be missed by all who knew him especially his wife Lucy and their family. Our club members offer our deepest sympathy and affection to his family.

Due to complications with Covid-19, the family are assessing scenarios for allowing people to come together as a community to celebrate Bruce's life.  More will follow on details of the family plans in the coming days.  The family writes,  "Until then, please know at the end there was neither fear nor suffering, only love."
