A few months ago, member Dennis Bergquist asked the club to support the application of Josue Tambara from Mozambique for a Rotary Peace Fellow scholarship. He was successful!

"The Rotary Peace Centers program promotes the mission of The Rotary Foundation to improve health, support education, and alleviate poverty." RI

Tucson Kino Rotary is the supporting club and District 5500 is the supporting District. There are only about 100 Peace Fellowships awarded annually, worldwide, so this is quite a feather in all of our caps. Thanks to Dennis for initiating this effort. Dennis had met Josue when he was on an agricultural tour in Minnesota a few years ago and has stayed in touch.

Josue has been assigned to the Rotary Peace Center at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, to attend the 2021 autumn session.

Past District Governor, Ellie Patterson, wrote to Josue, "This is such exciting news for everyone. Dennis and I spoke last night and we both shared our happiness for your opportunity. You make us proud! And we must also say that you are so deserving of this opportunity. Look what you have accomplished in your life and more doors are opening now!  You have a very bright future!

Here in District 5500 we couldn’t be happier for you. Congratulations!"

Yours In Rotary Service,
Past District Governor Ellie Patterson
