The Rotary Club of Yarmouth formally installed President Gerald "Curly" Carey and his Board of Directors for the 2019-2020 club year. On June 26th, outgoing President Kevin Lennon shared the club's success and thanked the club for the support he received from the members in all the club's efforts and accomplishments throughout the year.
SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA (June 26, 2019) — July marks the fiscal year for Rotary and the Rotary Club of Yarmouth is no exception. On June 26th at the Old Yarmouth Inn in Yarmouthport, the Rotary Club of Yarmouth installed its new Board of Directors, Officers, and new President, Gerald “Curly” Carey. Carey was installed by Past President and friend Janice Thacyk who shared touching stories of Carey’s commitment to the community throughout the years. As a part of the installation ceremony, Past President and incoming District Governor Stephen Albright swore in the remaining officers and board members. Past President Mike Riley acted as the master of ceremonies during the evening.
Several awards were presented to Rotarians by outgoing president Kevin Lennon. Stephen and his wife Jill Albright were honored with Rotarian of the Year awards for their embodiment of “every value, trait and attribute of Rotary”. “Steve has worked tirelessly for the Yarmouth club but also for the District with Jill alongside him”, commented Lennon. Steve has been installed as the 2019-2020 District Governor and has already visited every club in the district. Service Above Self (Presidential Citations) were awarded to Mike Duffy and Curt Sears for their commitment and contributions throughout the past Rotary year.
In his closing address, outgoing President Lennon shared the numerous successes that the club has had stating, “what we do as individuals and as an organization matters”. He went on to list out several of the most notable projects and initiatives that the club completed;
- A new tennis court and practice area at the Dennis Yarmouth High School
- A Christmas party for 30 families with personalized presents for each child
- Donations totaling over $10,000 to individuals and organizations through the club’s Good Works Fund
- $24,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors
The tradition of changing out the club banners allowed those in attendance to see a visual of the 2019-2020 Rotary International theme, “Rotary Connects The World”. Rotary International President-elect Mark Daniel Maloney shared the sentiment behind the theme at the recent annual convention in Hamburg, Germany. “The first emphasis is to grow Rotary — to grow our service, to grow the impact of our projects, but most importantly, to grow our membership so that we can achieve more.”
To begin the Yarmouth Club’s ceremony to a close, newly installed President Gerald “Curly” Carey addressed the group, thanking his family and the club for their support. Carey expressed the club’s sadness over the tremendous loss of several members during the past year – Rick Cannon, Jim Bogle and most recently Marianne Eubanks; both Cannon and Bogle were Charter members of the club. Marianne had worked on the planning of the event which made her absence that much more impactful. Carey challenged the club members to get involved and to do more by finding projects and committees within the club to engage in.
Secretary Rafi Chaprut presented the Perfect Attendance awards to those members who have not missed a club meeting or have gone to other clubs to make up missed meetings. Most notably, John Herr who marked 45 years of perfect attendance.
