2022 Ethics Hypothetical
RCS Community Service Event
Face to Face Only Meeting
- Tuesday 26th April 2020
- Lunch served from 12:30PM
Rotarian Bill Neill prepared a challenging task for our Four Way Test. Rotarians and guest Frank Catanzariti, pondered & discussed the pros and cons of accepting funds, possibly raised illegally, to fund a needed community centre. A facility that would help the very people afflicted by the alleged business undertakings of the provider of the funds.
The funder conditioned their donation to naming the centre after his deceased son that was gunned down in front of his family home.
A smaller gathering after a busy ANZAC Day long weekend enabled attendees to articulate their application of the Four Way Test whilst enjoying some much needed fellowship.
The result was befitting of the challenge. Scoring yes/no to the passage of each test, the result concluded the funding would be rejected by the smallest possible margin, just one vote!
- 3:5 - Is it the truth
- 3:5 - Is it fair to all concerned
- 5:3 - Will it build Goodwill & better Friendships
- 4:4 - Will it be Beneficial to all concerned
Yes = 15 No = 17
The Rotary Four Way Test unites Rotarians in the worldwide fellowship of Rotary.
Sergeant at Arms Geoffrey Little PHF opened the meeting in the customary way, Rotarian Heinz Gerstl PDG offered Bill a vote of thanks and President Mark thanked attendees for their considered views before drawing the small meeting to a close.
