Christmas Cards and Chocolate delivery to local Seniors

Rotarians delivered over 275 Christmas cards and chocolates to seniors in the Slave Lake region.  This three way partnership (Rotary Club, EG Wahstrom School and CJ Schurter School) started this project during Covid in 2021 when so many seniors were confined to their homes.   The deliveries were enjoyed by the seniors so much, the Rotary Club of Slave Lake continues to deliver Christmas cheer!

Partners include students and staff from CJ Schurter School and EW Wahlstrom School.  Students from various grades draw pictures and make colourful Christmas cards for our local seniors.  Rotarians then hand deliver the cards along with chocolates to seniors in the community.

The third annual Shredder Event held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 was very successful. Businesses and residents brought over 400 boxes of paper to be shredded. The Rotary Club partnered with Altogether Shredding and offered this service to resident and businesses within the region. The shredding event has been held for the past two years and over thirty local business brought in truckloads of shredding.

Congratulations to Araya Blize, the Rotary Club of Slave Lake scholarship recipient.

Each year, local high school students from Slave Lake who are planning on attending post-secondary school are encouraged to apply for the Rotary Club of Slave Lake $1,000 scholarships.
The Rotary Club of Slave Lake is proud to assist the Royal Canadian Legion with the Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner.
On October 15th, the Royal Canadian Legion held their annual dinner recognizing local RCMP members and other local law enforcement members for the great work done in the Slave Lake community.
Would you like to be a Friend of Rotary and help out at various events?

Do you like the work Rotary does and would like to help but don’t have the time to become a member or belong to a club?  If so, then being a Friend of Rotary may be for you.   Our Friends of Rotary require no commitments whatsoever.
Cards & Chocolate for Seniors!
During Covid when many seniors were home bound and not seeing many people, the Rotary Club of Slave Lake wanted to bring a little cheer.  We formed a partnership with 2 local elementary schools.  Students from CJ Schurter School (Kindergarten to grade 3) and EG Wahlstrom school (grades 4-6) drew pictures, made cards, and sometimes created special crafts for the local seniors. The Rotarians then hand delivered the cards along with chocolates to over 200 seniors in the community.

In 2023, the community service project grew to include over 200 seniors.  The cards bring a smile to many seniors and to Rotarians who love to hand deliver them!
Color Fun Run & BBQ   Saturday, April 29, 2023
The Color Fun Run is a five-kilometer, untimed family friendly event. Whether you run, walk, or dance across the finish line, participants will celebrate completing their happiest 5 km run. At each kilometer mark, Color Runners are doused from head to toe in colored powder and while most participants wear white at the starting line, everyone  finishes plastered in color!

The event held on Saturday, April 29 was a huge success!!   185 participants were covered in a rainbow of colours, in fact over 175 pounds of color powder was thrown at walkers.   When participants crossed the finish line, the fun continued with a Bar-b-que, music, photos and more color throws!

The Rotary Club of Slave Lake and Legacy Child Care Society were proud to host this community event.
