The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

The Rotary Club of North Kingstown
Meeting of February 3, 2025
Members present: Jim Halley, Nancy Beeley, Jim Lehman, Dennis Colacone, Nick Ruggieri, Mike Delyi, Melissa Anderson
We reviewed the minutes of the last meeting and approved them. Jim Halley suggested posting the minutes on ClubRunner as a club newsletter. Jim Lehman will begin doing it this week. He will also set Nick Ruggieri’s ClubRunner access at the level of club director, the highest level, so he can do Facebook work in ClubRunner.
Melissa Anderson reviewed the Benefit Dinner to Support CA Fire Victims. At the moment, we have a net of $2,120 from the event. We had a count of 56 persons attending, with total ticket sales of $2,425; we received $1,645 in donations, for a total received of $4,070. Cost of the event was $1,950. She distributed a spreadsheet that spelled it all out. There are three anticipated donors who have not yet contributed, so we will wait a few days to finalize numbers. Melissa also announced that we have to do our filing with the Secretary of State between February and March—she’ll take care of it promptly.
Jackets—nothing new. The vendor Nancy was planning to work with does sweatshirts only; she’s pursuing other leads.
Touch a Truck: nothing new.
Officer induction: Melissa suggested we have sandwiches; everyone liked the idea. We will plan for food.
Fun Run: Nick spoke with Sean Maloney, who ran the Jog for Julie 5K run for 9 years. It is a LOT of work; planning, volunteers, city permissions and support, etc. It might be more than we want to tackle. We can have him come to a meeting soon and walk us through his process. Nick will talk to him and schedule it. The earliest we could imagine hosting such an event would be 2026.
Art Festival: nothing new.
Car Show: the sea wall restoration will not be an impediment: work could not begin before next winter.
Recognition Dinner: nothing new.
Facebook Postings: Nick suggested we post something each week after our meeting. For today’s meeting it will be a THANK YOU to all who helped, attended, donated, or otherwise supported our fire victims’ benefit dinner. Nick pulled some language from a prompt to ChatGPT and we were off to the races. He and Jim Lehman refined the text after the meeting and he posted before leaving.
Jim Halley will be at a Town Council Meeting next Monday, so Jim Lehman will lead the meeting. Jim Halley will send out the agenda.
