Once again, the Nisku Leduc Rotary Club has stepped up to sponsor the Leduc Rotary Music Festival. Accepting a cheque for $10,000.00 is Myrtle Smyth, our Rotary Music Festival Director from President Bill Orthner. The Rotary Clubs have sponsored this community event since its inception 48 years ago.
This year's Music Festival starts on April 2nd and runs through to April 18th and features, Speech, Musical Theatre, Vocal, Band Instrumental, Choral, Junior Piano, Intermediate & Senior Piano competition.
The festival was founded by Dr. Lloyd Thompson, a local Dentist and Rotarian, has grown from a small event with only piano classes and one adjudicator to hosting, duets, large instrumental bands, speech students, musical theatre performers and rock musicians. Dr. Thompson was chosen as the winner for our Club's Integrity Award in 1995. Dr. Thompson's wife Eva has also played a large role in the festival, will be retiring this year and will certainly be missed.
