Amanda and Alexis Rothlisberger, accompanied by their parents Wayne and Theresa, visited Swan City Rotary on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, bringing with them a message of Service Above of Self. The grade 5 and grade 3 students of Maude Cliffort School heard about the earthquake in Haiti and wanted to do something to help. They heard about the Shelterbox initiative on the radio and followed up online and with Chris Andersen, International Service, for more information. In a matter of 5 short days, one school week, the two young ladies raised $1000, enough to purchase 1 shelterbox which they can now track to its final destination. The girls pulled together a fundraiser called "Hearts for Haiti" and sold heart shaped lollipops and chocolate candies in their schools and leveraged the rest from family and friends. This act showed those in attendance that it is never too early to follow the tenets of Service above Self and challenged those in the room to think of how they also help the larger world.
