Support for dinners at GP Friendship Centre

 

The GP Friendship Centre has provided hot nutritious meals on Wednesday and Friday evenings for quite some time, with occasional support from community groups.  Due to increased need in the community, they recently added a Tuesday dinner.  At our January board meeting, SCRC agreed to partner with the Friendship Centre to June 30th on a trial basis - we will pay for and serve meals, and the Friendship Centre staff will purchase the food and cook the meals.  Attendance for the meal has been from 45 people (during a bitter cold spell) to 80 people, including some families.  Accepting a cheque for $4,800 is Kelly Benning, Executive Director of the GP Friendship Centre; presenting is Bill Shumard, Chair of the SCRC Aboriginal Relations committee.
