Presidential Project Announced!
Swan City Rotary President, Ken Loudon, has chosen his
Presidential project for his 2007-2008 tenure. His project
will help to fill a much needed gap in seniors housing and
care, a gap that will only continue to widen in the coming
years.
In 2005, the Hythe & District Pioneer Home was successful in
obtaining a $2.4 million provincial grant that enabled them
to proceed with plans for a significant expansion to the
facility. Since then, the Pioneer Home committee has been
busy fundraising and planning for the project. The infusion
of $100,000.00 from the Swan City Rotary Club Presidential
Project will be a much needed boost to the project.
When complete, the total area of the addition will be
14,878.5 square feet and will include a new medical clinic, a
pharmacy, recreational space, a chapel, a garage and
scooter entry, a family dining room, a homecare office and
work space, and a covered entry, as well as 19 additional
supportive housing units covering 300 to 400 square feet
each.
When asked about his project, Mr. Loudon had this to say,
"Picking a presidential project is not as easy as one might
think. There are many facets that all need to be considered
and filtering through them is quite arduous. How does one
determine which need rises to the top? Well after much
researching and deliberating this year, I have chosen an area
that sooner or later will affect us all, some sooner than
others. Our generation, which is the largest demographic,
will soon be ready to retire. Looking ahead, I saw a raising
concern that warranted a response. So it is with great pleasure
to get behind a project that will not only leave a
personal legacy, but will have lasting impact now and for
the future."
