Taken from Mariah's Blog: http://mariahintaiwan.blogspot.com/ Sunday, August 23, 2009 Taaaiiiiwwwaaan!! Hello from TAIWAN!! I have now been in Taiwan for 2 days, and have eaten enough food for 4 days, don't think that the Taiwanese are skinny because they don't eat. The lunches that I have had are more like suppers they have at least 10 dishes, and me being the foreigner I have to try everything… twice.

My little rice bowl is refilled instantly when it is empty, so the first thing I did when I got to my host parents house was look up how to say "I am full" well this is a useless saying, because I am ignored and my rice bowl is re-filled. I have actually created a way where my rice bowl can not be filled up again, I simply throw my dirty napkin into my dish and put my chopsticks into their paper case. This has worked considerably well. One thing about Taiwanese food is that it is not what it really looks like, for example green beans are not vegetables they are really little fish, and brown spaghetti is not pasta but the lining from a cow's stomach. I have told my host parents not to tell me what I am eating until I have tried it. I am actually proud that I have tried everything! I have my own room, which is a privilege because I am the only one in the apartment who does not have to share a room. I have a rock solid bed but this is also a privilege because my host siblings and gam gam (grandmother) sleep on the floor. I have to admit I didn't think that Taiwan and Canada would be so different. I thought that we would both have washing machines but here you wash your clothes while you are showering, maybe to save water or because it is conveniant (probably for both). I am also not allowed to put toilet paper in the toilet (it will get plugged up). I am pleased to say that the sun has not burnt me yet and I have met people that are of the same height as me. Anyways I am having a great time, Taiwan is great! Posted by Mariah Sanregret at 10:08 PM
