Highway to Mexico, more Mazatlan!

The last few days have been very busy, here is the short version. Monday morning we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with Rotarians from Mazatlan. It is very moving to hear how the work we do to bring the vehicles to their communities truly impacts so many and how grateful they are for our work. We are very grateful for the work of the many Rotarians in the area who contribute so much to ensure our
efforts continue. We know the vehicles mean a lot, but truly we only see our side as we are only delivering, the work begins once the units are ready for use.
After breakfast we rallied the troops to divide the gear by truck and community need. It is hard to believe some Bombardos may have not used gear in the past. It was very exciting to see how much gear was packed into the vehicles.
Today was a very busy day. Bright and early we arrived at the trucks to start the parade. We ventured throughout the streets for a few hours with a police escort with sirens and lights going, and yes we did wake a few sleepyheads up, and it was worth it. The most heartfelt moments were when the wonderful people of Mazatlan came out of their homes to wave, blow kisses and to extend their appreciation for our work. Plus many Canadians came out and waved their Canadian flags, we do not need to say more…. we were all moved.
The arrival at the city hall square was filled with cheers, waves and wonderful welcoming smiles, we then meet with the mayor to officially hand off the keys to the vehicles. Wow, what an amazing turn out from the locals.
We are very proud to say, the official opening of Allan’s park followed. This was a moment that moved everyone. For the many who have been touched by Allan’s work, you will understand the significance of this tribune. This park joins many communities together to help build community.
We then enjoyed a great lunch with the Mayors wife, followed by great local dancing at the city square. We must say, Vivian and Tracey represented Canada well in the musical chair game… that is all we shall say tonight. The evening ended celebrating Pepesan’s birthday together as a whole family.
