Highway to Mexico, Day 7

After a really good rest, the team welcomed Pepesan and Memo from Mexico. After fuel, vehicle check, breakfast and yes the regular run to Starbucks, the team left for the border, thanks Tracey for treating the team! We are now all hooked on special coffees. Vivian, Tracey and Mike had picked up lunch fixings at Safeway prior to leaving. After decorating the trucks with Canadian flags, we were o...ff. Thank goodness Mike is such a Mr. Fix it, with tie straps, he can make anything work. Crossing the US station went well. It is truly an eye opener the difference from the US to the Mexico landscape. We are very blessed to have the life we have, and this was another reminder of this.
We arrived at the Mexican border around 9:30 am. Allan and Pepsan went ahead to help move the process along. Lunch was served off of the back of Mike and Tracey’s fire truck in the holding area of the Mexican compound. Slowly vehicles were released one by one. The official time for the last truck to make it out is 2:28 pm, only a 5 hour wait……not too bad at all. Next stop was to obtain visitor visa’s with the final paperwork completed for a 3 pm departure. The mandatory ice cream treats was appreciated as we waited for the last of the visa’s. Not too many miles completed yet, so it is now time to get back on the road, which happened by 3:30 local time. The process may not have gone so well without Allan and Pepsan’s knowledge and experience. Thank you to both for your dedication to get the convey into Mexico.
The roads immediately narrowed and close encounters of the semi/bus/car/truck were part of Mexican driving. It is nice to have the welcoming cuddles, but please give us a little more road room.
It is exciting to get the waves of hello and see the smiles of joy of the many people along the road. We feel humbled being able to bring these units to the communities. Miles and miles of desert are interrupted by a small community or very large produce farm, we believe it is produce.
After 15 hours of travel, we arrived into Obregon at 11 pm, had a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant then a few hours of sleep. We are packing with a goal to depart very soon as today will be another very long day. Watch for more details tomorrow, and keep the postive wishes coming our way. we are so close!
