Highway to Mexico, Day 6

Sunrise at Lake Havasu is beautiful. Some of the youngsters there for spring break even stayed up to enjoy the moment before quieting down for the day. We ensured we said goodbye with our sirens and horns as we left the parking lot.

It was wonderful to have Dave and Elizabeth join us for breakfast and to send us off. And yes, Vivian, Murray and Tracey found the closest Starbucks and make it back for the morning meeting prior to departure. We took the scenic route out of Lake Havasu. Once we hit the road, we enjoyed miles and miles of desert and heat.

Once in a while a large farm or feedlot would appear out of nowhere, almost like a mirage. We even saw the by-invite only adult hotel, Lewis Prison. It was too hot for the boys in pink to show their stuff. And we hear it is too cold at home to show any pink as well.

We followed the I85, I93 then moved onto the I8 then onto the I10 around Tucson as we wanted to bypass Phoenix. It is great to say that all vehicles are working well in the heat. There were times we had to ensure we used our defensive driving skills as we concurred the miles.

The boys have learned the 4 magical words, oh, yes, right…… sorry. Murray was the first to truly note these wonderful words.
Henry is a tad worried about Fred as Fred is letting your hair down, or grow that is.

After traveling for 9 ½ hours and over 600 kms, we were happy to arrive at our hotel in Nogales. Tomorrow is unknown as we have no idea how long we will wait at the border crossing.

Jerry seems to be enjoying being the leader of the pack with Allan, but he is very quiet on the CB. Bob thought he would treat us to singing his favorite country song over the CB but he didn’t realize the other vehicles had turned down the volume.

As the convey taillight, Harm and Percy are catching all vehicles rear ends. The 1989 water tanker truck was donated by the Northern Sunrise County and is in great working order, it is ready to roll once we hand over the keys to the people in Mexico. This is Harm’s 7th trip, so he is teaching Percy everything he knows as this is Percy’s first.
