Highway to Mexico: Almost There
Posted by Cedrick Leblanc
We left Las Vegas shortly after lunch. It would be a very short day, as we were invited for supper by Dave Chomik in Lake Havasu. The hospitality was amazing! Thanks Dave & Elizabeth!
On our way out from Vegas, the Sunrise Fire Truck got a flat tire on the
freeway. The rest of the crew continued on. They caught up to us a few
hours late in Lake Havasu. The next morning, we drove to Nogales,
Arizona. Once at the hotel, everyone was glad to relax. One of the
drivers lost his fire truck keys in Vegas, so we had to get a 2nd pair
cut in Nogales.
The next morning, we met with Pepe San and Memo. We slowly made our way to the Mexican border. We passed the first gate under 1 hour. Once we hit the 2nd gate, the waiting game started. Some of us relaxed in the sun, took a nap, played cards, listened to poker all in an attempt to kill what ended up being 7 hours.
At the border, we met a Rotarians from Boise Idaho. They were driving two school buses filled with furniture. This was their 2nd attempt at crossing the border. They were discouraged at the bureaucracy. By the time, we left customers & Immigration it was past 4 PM. We made our way to Hermosillo.
If all goes well, we will be driving into Mazatlan later tonight. We have about a 12 hour drive a head of us.
