President Drew Lamont performs his first official duty of announcing the winners for the Cash & Camping Super Lottery. The attached picture shows him congratulating the first prize winner (Amanda & Colin Boivin).

First prize of a Tioga Motorhome and Larson 180 Boat had a retail value of over $134,000. Amanda Boivin dropped by the building to check up on her winnings and find out how to claim their prize. The lottery board and volunteers stayed to draw the lotteries' remaining 300 prizes.

Results of the lottery were lower expected. We only sold 72% of the 35,000 available tickets. This means that the partnering groups will receive about 90% of the dollars they applied for, the Gymniks will receive about 40% of their usual share of the profits and Swan City Rotary will have no additional funds to distribute in the coming year.

The performance of the lottery can be attributed to many factors. According to Alberta Gaming, lottery profits have been down for everyone across Alberta this year due to the slowing of the economy. The recent hike in gas prices may also have deterred potential ticket purchasers. Finally, we have seen an increase in the number of lotteries offered in this area, including flyers from all over the province. All these factors have had some impact on sales.

The lottery board will be holding a wrap up strategy meeting on July 29th to find new ways to enhance this lottery for next year.

We will be ramping up efforts in our Cars for Christmas Mega Lottery this winter in an attempt to get us back on budget. Many of the programs offered by the Swan City Rotary Club require some heavy funding. On the bright side, funds brought in by our Bingos have not been affected by the slow down in the economy.
