The TreeHouse at Liberty Hospital
Jul 07, 2021
The Club will be meeting at The TreeHouse for the month of July. Today we are going to get a tour of the facility. Those who have had a loved one hospitalized know how difficult it can be to leave the hospital after visiting hours, and also understand the unforeseen financial burden of finding lodging nearby. To meet the needs of these patients and families, the TreeHouse was established in 2005 to serve as a home-away-from-home at no cost to those who need it. Thanks to the generosity of over 500 donors and businesses, our hospitality house has served over 43,000 people to date. The TreeHouse offers a variety of high-quality amenities to guests, including ten sleeping rooms with private baths, quiet rooms, open kitchen area, the outdoor patio and Marjolein Bastin gardens, and much more. Click on the button below to learn more and take a virtual TreeHouse tour. |

UPDATE: We had 27 boxes of "Pinkies" ordered today which will be a donation to Polio Plus from our club of $5,062.50!
-Club members will be billed by the club to cover their donations. Donuts can be picked up Wednesday 10/20 after 9am at Ethan Stark's office-Missouri Farm Bureau Ins 944 Sutton Place Liberty MO 64068 or at our noon meeting on 10/20.
Our club is participating in a “Pilot Program” to help raise money for Polio Plus.
Over the last few years other Rotary Districts partnered with Dunkin Donuts to give donuts away in exchange for Polio Plus donations. It has become a very successful campaign and is set to generate close to $1,000,000 in 2021.
Success of the program is driven by Rotarians who pre-order 10-count boxes of “Pinkies” for a $25 donation. One box of donuts will generat $187.50 in donations to Polio Plus. Every dollar that is donated is multiplied 7.5 times before being delivered to End Polio Now with the additional funds from Rotary Districts and The Gates Foundation.
Our Club goal is 12 boxes of donuts at $25/box. When this goal is achieved the club will have raised $2,250 for polio plus! We will take pre-orders starting today and continue at our meeting tomorrow. The boxes of donuts will be picked up from our Liberty Dunkin Donuts on 10/20/2021 and distributed at our regular meeting on 10/20/2021. Checks should be made out to "The Rotary Foundation."
You may register tomorrow at our meeting or if you are not able to attend you may register online and leave your order in the comment box.
Help us raise another Million Dollars for End Polio Now!

Harriman Jewell Series
Oct 20, 2021
Our mission is to bring the best of the performing arts to the Kansas City community. The Harriman-Jewell Series continues to carve out an enviable legacy as a performing arts presenter of international importance. Many know that the Series presented tenor Luciano Pavarotti in his professional recital debut in 1973, but the story of discovery neither begins nor ends here. Few Kansas Citians had seen New York City Ballet's Patricia McBride and Edward Villella before they danced in the Series' first performance in 1965. Nor had the community heard violinist Itzhak Perlman play, unless one counts Ed Sullivan Show appearances that preceded his first local recital in 1971. Discovery, along with the co-tenets quality and variety, run the full length of the Series' existence. These principles set by the Series' late founder and artistic director Richard Harriman will continue to guide its service to the community. More than 970 performances have come to Kansas City by way of the Harriman-Jewell Series, including 24 American recital debuts by prominent artists. With the addition of its free Educational Events that allow interaction with musicians and dancers, and its free Discovery Concerts that eliminate the barrier of cost, the Harriman-Jewell Series offers even more life-enriching opportunities for its community's youth and lifelong learners. An enduring aspect of the Series, drafted by founders Richard Harriman and Dean Dunham, Jr., is the availability of the performing arts as an integral part of a superior liberal arts college curriculum for William Jewell College students. |

Woodneath Library Renovation
Nov 10, 2021
In 2008, Mid-Continent Public Library purchased a unique piece of property in the Shoal Creek area of Kansas City from the Crouch Family. This 33-acre property would become the site of what is today the Woodneath Library Center. On this property resides a historic home that is the only site in northern Kansas City designated as a landmark on the city, county, state, and federal registers. Listed in 1978 on the National Register of Historic Places, the home is a Greek Revival-style farmhouse built in 1855-56 and is known officially as the Elbridge Arnold Homestead or the Edwin Y. Crouch Residence. Following the opening of the Woodneath Library Center in 2013—the first phase of MCPL’s plans for the property—the Library embarked on the second phase of redevelopment in 2018 with the support of the Crouch Family: the multi-year adaptive reuse of the historic homestead, which is destined to become the home of the humanities-based Story Center. The Story Center is a mission-enhancement program of the Library dedicated to helping people in the Kansas City area and surrounding region to create, share, and connect with stories through year-round programs and services. As a result of the work of Pishny Renovation Services, an award-winning historic restoration and preservation contractor located in Lenexa, Kansas, unique spaces such as the Crouch Family Reading Room, two programming rooms, a digital storytelling studio, and a conference room will make the home a place where storytelling in all forms can flourish. In the coming years, the Library plans to develop specific projects intended to explore and understand the history of Woodneath. More information about the historic home’s reopening will be added as available. |

We are adopting a deserving family from Hillcrest Hope's Transitional Housing program. This family is commited to a plan to get back on their collective feet. These families need our help as their time and money are invested into their family plan. We can help celebrate their commitment and recognize them through thoughtful giving. Please purchase a gift (from volunteer list) or donate money for others to purchase on your behalf.

Thank you for volunteering to ring at the red kettle! When you are scheduled to start a staff member will deliver your kettle and bell(s) to you or if you are taking a shift during the day, the equipment may already be in place for you. We may or may not replace the kettle for each volunteer. We like to keep track of how much each volunteer or group raises, but depending on staffing, you may receive an average on what you helped raise for the day. Please understand if your kettle does not get switched out it is because we are trying to save on staffing and gas so that more money goes directly toward the mission of The Salvation Army. When you are finished ringing, a staff member will pick up your equipment or will have instructed you if another group or volunteer will be taking over for you. During this busy time we have many deliveries and pick ups to make, so please be patient if we are running a few minutes behind. Although all kettles are locked to the kettle stand, please do not leave a kettle unattended unless you are instructed to do so. If our representative is running more than ten minutes late, please call the numbers listed below or attached to the kettle stand.
Have fun! Salvation Army bell ringers are an icon of the Christmas season, and pleasant and polite ringers spread the holiday spirit and ensure that businesses will welcome us back in upcoming years.
If you experience problems or your kettle becomes full please contact the phone number attached to the kettle stand at your ringing location.
______________________________
A few things to remember:
* Dress warmly. Kettle sites are outdoors, so be prepared for the weather and wear comfortable weatherproof shoes. Also, please remember that local managers cannot give you permission to ring indoors, even temporarily. Kettle stands must stay in their proper position.
* Stores want an optimum experience for customers. Greet customers with a smile and a holiday greeting. Thank people for their donations. Bell ringers are best received in small groups; two to three is ideal. Please do not have lengthy cell phone conversations at the kettle.
* The Salvation Army policies prohibit smoking, eating, alcohol and weapons at kettle sites.
