This week's meeting was brought to us by Team 4, the Pole Dancers. Mike Young gave the invocation and Curtis Newcomb led the pledge. Dennis Mihalka brought the gift, a universal gift certificate.

Guests Brian Crume and Julie Martin were introduced.

The Queen announced the glaring absence of her bell, alleged that a female in the club may be responsible, and assigned a fine of $1 per week to all women in the club until said bell turns up.  She also strongly encouraged Team 4 to step up and work with their leader to schedule an inaugural social with the capable assistance of Dave Ercolano.

Happy December birthday to Jim Cloney, Keith Ritter, Warren Lane, Steve Hossler, John Birmingham, Andy Main and Roger Janis.  Happy December anniversary to Neal Sternberg, Larry Hopson, Don Selke, Chad Thomspon, Jerry Peters, Marge Beck, John Birmingham and their spouses.

Happy Rotary anniversary to Charlie Clinkenbeard-32 years, John Oakes-21 years, Ken Miller-3 years and Shanna Cannon-3 years!

Bill Evanhoe announced the Christmas Angel Tree.  Angels can be selected today and unwrapped gifts (with the Angel Tree tag attached) must be turned in to the Salvation Army office on Larkspur Lane by December 13th.  Unwrapped gifts may also be dropped off at Bill Evanhoe's office on the way to Rotary next week.

Kurt Mitchell is recruiting volunteers to work on the assembly and delivery of the Christmas baskets.  They will be packed and delivered on Wednesday, December 23rd.

Steve Hagenbaugh announced that the December 5th Holiday Party is sold out! It will be held at Howard Taylor's home, starts at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Jazz Trio, and dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. Parking is available in the cul-de-sac and on the street. Be sure to bring a wrapped, white elephant gift for every person in your party.

The Chinese takeout containers were turned in full of spare change in support of literacy programs.  The Top Ducks presented their boxes as a group: Ducks all in a row!  A district match has been requested that would increase the level of donations and Chad Thompson was thanked sincerely for these efforts and his work on the Paul Harris contributions.

Dennis Mihalka was fined $64.99 for the inscribed sentiments on the Rotary bell presented to the Queen ($20 less than it could have been, thanks to the bell).  The inscription noted that the Queen's days as president are numbered and three unfortunates (Shanna Cannon, Dick Yoder and Ken Miller) clapped!

Anna Bengtsson was fined $60.06 for the birth of her first granddaughter, Greenlee Cristine, born on Sunday, October 25th at 6:06 a.m.

Pat Beasley was fined $61.99 for his knee replacement.  He's feeling better and so is his wife!

Glenn Rank was fined $85.17 for the success of his alma mater's football team, Paradise (against local teams unfortunately) and his trip with his family to Los Angeles.

The Queen offered a bargain $33.33 fine to anyone who wanted to admit a trip over the Thanksgiving holiday and Kurt Mitchell confessed a trip to Santa Barbara.

Andy Main won the 50-50 drawing and spun the wheel to "grow."  Tickets were also drawn for two beautiful sets of cards made by Robin Birmingham and the winners were Howard Taylor and Tom Bryant.

Allyn Clark and Eric Smith received complimentary passes to the Harlan Carter boy's and girl's tournaments and luncheons.  Chad Thompson received 4 tickets to the Magic Christmas Holiday Spectacular courtesy of Myron Tisdale.

Today's presentation was made by Kathy Thompson, Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood Services and Special Education for the Shasta County Office of Education.  She talked about:

·      what brain research is revealing about over exposure to the media and violent content that children view.

·      what is different about what children are exposed to today versus 20 years ago.

·      what experts recommend we do to insure that children have a "healthy media diet".

Howard Taylor won the gift!
