Notes from the first meeting of the new Rotary year!

President Bev Stupek opened her first meeting with a bang, but no bell!  Seems the bell has gone missing already.  The July 1, 2009 meeting feature teams in full color, decorations, games, candy throwing and more.

Brought to us by Team 1, or Team Numero Uno, the meeting focused on Prez Bev's theme for the year "Celebrating Redding East Rotary", the goals for the New Year and team building. Bev gave us a short version of her craft talk and related to the many hats she wears as the President of Rotary, wife of 31 years (today), mother, professional and volunteer.  Wow, what a woman!

Some new experiences for the club will be some things from the past, like entering the meeting to uplifting music.  Much like when Marge Beck was president.  Keith Ritter and his volunteer group of Team 10 Amigos will still be tossing candy and the Birthday table is still in effect.

Announcements:

Jerry Peters has planned two work parties to start building the TERRY QUIBELL Ticket Booth at EnterpriseHigh School.  The first dates are July 11/12 with more to follow on July 18/19.  If you can volunteer a little labor, please contact Jerry.

Ducky Derby tickets were passed out to team captains by Barbara White.  We each have ten 20th Anniversary Ducks to sell.

Bill Haedrich gave an update on John Birmingham (see the home page) and the Pub Crawl Kings drank a keg of Heineken in honor of John's recovery.

Prez Bev announced that fines will be more frequent, but not always for money.  Some will be $5, some will be $500.  Keith Ritter, Bob Salyer and the Quibell family received fine free thank yous.  Neil Sternberg, who showed up today but couldn't guarantee he'd be back, paid his $125 commitment for the year just in case.  Frank Strazzarino, Parrish Malson and Jeff Vieira were recognized for their photos in the Record Searchlight.

The new 50/50 game was created by Kara Quibell, who happened to draw her own ticket for the game and then spun a NADA on the wheel. The pot grows.

Our program for the day was the many hats for Bev Stupek and her plans for an awesome year.  She morphed from a judge like character with a crown to a cheerleader all in one meeting.  You had to be there!

Don Selke used his past president status to recognize Bev and gave her a fine free for a great start to the Rotary year and being the biggest cheerleader but fined her $5 for her campaigning for the Shasta High School Board.

The meeting ended with more fellowship, a presentation by Diane Guhy to Prez Bev of a tie-died sweatshirt for all the colors or the club teams and the weekly gift drawing which was won by Virgil Weld.
