The Continuing Care facility in the new Edson Healthcare Centre is intended to provide for people with complex health needs who are unable to remain at home.

The Wellness Project will improve the quality of life of Continuing Care clients, their family and the staff who aid them, by enhancing the grounds in the Continuing Care Courtyard – creating a useful, inviting and therapeutic outdoor space for those who are in need of long term care.

“The Wellness Project will take the Continuing Care Courtyard to a higher level of usefulness. Many of the enhancements were suggested by current front-line healthcare workers and their input was extremely valuable in helping to create a usable and inviting space.

Enhancements will ensure the Courtyard is useful – by the addition of more handrails, seating and shade structures, inviting – by the addition of safe, whimsical pathways and plantings and therapeutic – by encouraging clients, families and staff to spend time outdoors in a safe, welcoming environment.

Spending time outdoors, especially in a garden setting, has been shown to positively affect a person’s physical, mental, social and overall well-being. The design of the Continuing Care Courtyard is focused on the healing elements of nature, as well as accessibility, sensory, therapeutic, restorative, social and rehabilitation needs of clients and residents.

Incorporation of this enhanced courtyard will assist in meeting the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of not only clients and residents, but also family members, friends and our broader community.

Edson Sobey’s and Your Independent Grocer Edson have agreed to offer Wellness Project leaves –  where the public could donate $2 or more and receive a leaf to enter their name and have it put up in the window – for the month of January. Many local businesses will also have brightly coloured donation cans at the front of their stores where people can donate loose change.

Over the next few months, The Rotary Club of Edson will be putting the 'fun' back in fundraising and will be hosting events that will help raise money for the Wellness Project, and will also be entertaining for the community.
