Objective
to construct the third phase of a K-8 school near the town of Anyidii, Bor County, Sudan.
Background
- In 2008, Jok visited Edson and gave Lost Boys presentation that truely moved Jessie Lilly. Jessie raised $13,000 for a water well.
- Later that year, the water well (Phase I) was constructed near the town of Anyidii by HelpSudan with funding from Jessie Lilly. The well supports a growing town, large rural base, and a mud thatch school (Thianwei Primary) with >1000 students. The mud thatch school is staffed by Government employed teachers. The mud thatch school dissintegrates each rainy season and must be rebuilt each year.
- In 2009, HelpSudan built a construction compound, two manual brick presses, and a 5-ton truck for future school projects. 33,000 earth/concrete bricks were pressed and are ready for construction.
- In 2010, construction of the first block of 4 permanent school rooms (Phase II) was completed.
- In 2011, HelpSudan built the second block of 4 school rooms (Phase III) with funding from the Rotary Club of Edson and the Edson Interact club.
Impacts and Benefits
- Provide a permanent school structure to >1000 students
- Provide education to both boys and girls
- Vocational training of local workers
