A chance to own one and also benefit the Foster City community.

Painting is his passion… to view something of beauty and commit it to  paper through the delicate application of watercolor, … this is a gift local  artist Alvin Joe brings to Foster City.

As a child in China, Alvin had a love for observation as he gathered images, skillfully rendering them for others to appreciate. At the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Alvin pursued a course in fine art and advertising design leading to a career in graphic design.

Upon retirement in the mid 1990’s, Alvin returned to his love of painting.  Alvin’s watercolors have been recognized both locally and nationally. He has won many awards and his work is featured in Splash 10, a work of leading artists published in 2007.

A resident of Foster City and a member of the Rotary Club of Foster City since 1992, Alvin has worked quietly behind the scenes. Participating in projects and donating his time and talents to raise funds for the community,

Alvin designed club banners, logos, and translated Rotary events to paper in the form of intricate watercolor paintings. His heart for others is beautifully expressed through his talented artworks.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many community events and fundraisers have been canceled. These events offered Rotary a means of raising funds to support Foster City outreach programs including the Foster City Library, Foster City Village, Hillbarn Theater, Foster City schools, police, and fire departments benefiting children, adults, and seniors.

A thoughtful problem solver, Alvin Joe put forth an idea to highlight the beautiful Foster City rose gardens and raise money for Rotary projects as well. Alvin captured the intrinsic beauty of the Foster City roses near the  Recreation Center, Shell Boulevard, and Library in seven original watercolor paintings. These paintings will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting the community at large.

The auction will be held October 8, 2020, 5:00 p.m. at the Amphitheater in Leo J. Ryan Park.
