Today, members of the Rotary Club of North Sacramento and officers from the Sacramento Police Department helped students celebrate their accomplishments in improving their literacy scores.  The "grand champion" increased her reading scores by almost FOUR grade levels.

As they were working to improve their reading scores throughout the year, the students had no idea what the "grand prizes" would be. The top two "reading champions" in two categories (1st through 3rd grade and 4th through 6th grade) received bicycles. The "third place" readers received Razor scooters.  This project was funded, in part, by a Rotary Foundation Community Grant.

We are continuing this project next year. We hope the success and enthusiasm of the students will incentivize them to read over the summer and to continue to improve their reading scores next year and beyond.
