Cari Noelck has been an RN for 17 years and presently works in the operating room at the Orthopedic Surgery Centre at the Royal Alexander Hospital. Cari has participated as a team member on Operation Esperanza, the medical-dental mission to Ecuador, for eight years and for the past six years she has been charge nurse in the operating room. This involves a tremendous amount of work:  gathering, purchasing, and organizing surgical supplies, sterilizing instruments, as well as packing them. This work takes many months and many meetings prior to the mission.

Cari has been unassuming, humble, and shown strong leadership while preparing for the mission and particularly while doing the work in Cuenca, Ecuador. She deals respectfully with other health care professionals on the team. Cari has a heart for the poor and suffering, and shows great empathy for these individuals. She points out that all their time is donated, and she takes vacation time away from work to go on the mission. She says “it is a lot of work, but also re-energizing in some ways. I always come back with a new appreciation for my life and all that we have in Canada”.

Cari is married to Wayne and they have 2 young children. Cari thanks her entire family for their support, helping with childcare when she’s away, coming to the silent auctions and donating money, and even helping to pack hockey bags! Cari will continue to participate in the mission for as long as it is happening and she truly exemplifies “Service Above Self”!
