At the beginning of October we were fortunate to have Phil Sande join our club.  Phil shared the new vision and redevelopment of the City Centre land.  Regardless if you are fore or against the redevelopment, this area will impact and change what Edmonton looks like in the future.

With an amazing 528 acres of land to redevelop this is a unique opportunity for Edmonton to create something amazing and intensify residential development.  Sustainability is key and emphasized throughout the presentation.  The goal of the area is to create homes for up to 30,000 people; a living and working environment; world leading and sustainable; and development that would significantly reduce our ecological footprint.

With the support and involvement of key stakeholders such as NAIT, Kingsway Garden Mall, Public Health [hospitals] and the downtown, this area already holds lots of resources.  Thirty percent of the entire area will be allocated to park space [green space] and NAIT is even planning an expansion and student housing as well.  There will be single homes, affordable homes as well as three story walk-ups.  It has now been confirmed that the area will keep its original name, Blatchford, which will ensure the history of the area.

We look forward to the future of this project and how it will shape the future of Edmonton.
