The $500 "Service Above Self" Scholarship recognizes a student's commitment to community service through volunteering and helping others.

Upon receiving this award, Sasha offered the following thoughts: "The great change that came with high school was realizing that there was always something I could do to help others. No matter how small or big the project is, there is always a personal reward to it. Helping out with projects in and outside of high school gave me the opportunity to connect with people in my school and in the community. I volunteered for many school events and projects. I was a member of the  Interact Rotary club , the Leadership program and Key Club. Throughout grades 11 and 12, I volunteered for school events such as the Community Halloween Party, bake sales, Geomeer Helping Hampers Project,  and I was a member of the Yearbook Committee at Jasper Place High School. Outside of school I volunteered for the Food Bank and The Heart and Stroke Foundation. The things I participated in made school more meaningful for me because I knew I was doing others some good. I met good people It was rewarding. I would like to thank the Mayfield Rotary Club for selecting me as the scholarship recipient!"
