WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON! _______ Join us on May 7th, 2020 for a refreshed version of our annual Diversity event to celebrate our Club's 30th Anniversary and in support of our Club's work supporting stronger and healthier women and children. This year we have the beautiful Varscona Theatre venue in Old Strathcona all to ourselves for a private evening watching the Shadow Theatre production, "The Wrong People Have Money" - the funniest play ever written about moving Greenland! We will welcome guests at 530pm with light snacks and refreshments before the show in the reception and rehearsal hall. There will also be a silent auction where you can peruse some great finds! Additionally, we will have a special jewelry sale with proceeds going specifically to our Honduras project in memory of Wendy Andrews. We hope you will be able to join us for a great evening in celebration of 30 years of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Glenora! The Future of Education

Dr. Neil Fassina is the president of Athabasca University, Canada’s first and only fully digital university and a world leader in online education. Dr. Fassina was formerly the vice-president academic and provost at NAIT and dean of the JR Shaw School of Business. He holds a PhD in Management from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and a BSc in psychology from the University of Calgary. He is a chartered professional in human resources (CPHR) and a chartered director through the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D). Dr. Fassina will be speaking about the future of education, a topic that is particularly timely as we see learners around the world moving online in the face of the current global pandemic. Basically Babies: Outfitting Newborns in Need

Our Chair of the Board and President, Shannon Stewart, is also the founder of Basically Babies and has been the guiding force for our entire history. She has her Bachelor of Commerce degree and an extensive background in business in the areas of business strategy and management consulting, the field in which she works in a professional capacity. She oversees the strategy, corporate direction and overall mission of Basically Babies while also ensuring she is fully knowledgeable about the day-to-day operations, providing guidance and direction to management, staff and volunteers She is wholly committed to our purpose of “outfitting newborns in need.” Shannon provides her time and expertise exclusively on a volunteer basis. "Fathering" and the experiences Terra Centre has had engaging young dads.

Terra has spent the last 20 years creating inclusive services for young dads. The presentation will focus on “Fathering”, the experiences Terra has had engaging with young dads and understanding the challenges they face. As well, the value of and benefit of “fathering”. The organization: In 2021 Terra Centre for Teen Parents will be celebrating 50 yrs serving young parents in Edmonton. Annually over 800 teen parents and their children benefit from a range of support services offered; educational supports, housing, childcare, in home visits, child development activities as well numerous groups promoting positive parenting and personal well being. A short bio: Karen has been employed with Terra for 23 years serving in the capacity of Executive Director for the last 18 years. Karen has worked in the not for profit sector for 28 year and has a long standing history of serving vulnerable children, youth and families. Karen has contributed to the development of our community through her work on many collaborative projects and initiatives. She is well versed in stakeholder relations, building partnerships and is passionate about community development and engagement. She was nominated Women of Vision in 2009. Introduction by Heidi Yang.
