Randy Gregg - Riverhawks

We had a great virtual meeting this week. Dr. Randy Gregg joined us.

Randy gave us a very entertaining, informative and inspiring presentation on plans for Telus Field.

Dr. Gregg is part of a group of 24 Edmontonians who have taken a long term lease of Telus Field. There plan is to revitalise and the field and the neighbourhood. Their plans include;

Bringing elite level baseball to the Park.
1. They have obtained a Pacific League baseball franchise and they will field a team (the Edmonton Riverhawks);
2. They have hired a quality coach and they are in the process of recruiting. They expect to have no problem recruiting a competitive team
3. They will partner with local businesses in order to provide quality local food and fun promotion events to attract people who are only casual baseball fans
4. Ticket prices to be reasonable
They will make the ball field available for minor and recreational league baseball, fastball and slowpitch to use
They hope to host concerts and other events on the site as well.

It sounds like an exciting development for our City and we look forward to seeing some baseball and eating some gourmet hot dogs in the corporate boxes.

Feb 3 Notes

I counted 16 people at our virtual meeting this week. Carolyn was back and she introduced us to her grandson.

Sarah and TJ joined us from the U of A Rotaract Club. It was great to have them.

Brian Hamilton shared a photo and a rotary memory. Brian recalled a time when he hosted 4 young ladies from the rotary Cross Country tour. As he recalled Dave Dorcus had asked if he could host one coros country tour Rotary exchange student and he ended up hosting four. His only regret was that he did not keep in tough after they left.

Tony announced that he has more than quadrupled his original fundraising target of $250 for his coldest night of the year walk. Congrats Tony. You do us proud.

Sarah reported on the U of A rotaract Club activities. They meet virtually every Wednesday evening, they have 40 active members and 4 active committees. Sarah sits on 3 of them!
