We held a dinner meeting at the University Club on Thursday Aug 28.

Brian Hamilton’s daughter, Heather, joined us for the meeting.

Although our meeting was poorly attended (only 7 members and one guest) we had a good meeting with lots of lively discussion.

Our Speaker this week was Janice Pinnock. Janice is a diversity education consultant with the Edmonton Public School board.  https://epsb.ca/ourdistrict/departments/diversity/

Janice talked about what it is like for a black person living in Edmonton and the challenges and biases they face. Janice engaged us in a discussion that helped us to be more aware of our own biases.

She gave a very valuable and enlightening presentation. I know that I, for one, came away with a better understanding of my biases. I hope that we will be able to get Janice back for a longer presentation in the future and that we will be able to get a larger gropu ou to hear her speak.
