We met online again on the morning of December 15 2021. I counted only 9 members on my Zoom screen. Our speaker this week was elder Tom Snow. Tom is a Residential School survivor, a Day school survivor. Tom talked about his childhood, his experiences growing up and how difficult it is for his people to grow up with self-confidence and a sense of self-worth in Canada and dealing with our history of trauma and mis-treatment. It is unfortunate that we did not have a better attendance for his presentation. Tom is active with reconciliation and healing efforts in Alberta. He works with the Bent Arrow Society and with many communities (including Edmonton and St. Albert) on their education and reconciliation efforts. Trying to improve circumstances for indigenous people living in Cities and towns. Tom had a very important message for us and I hope that he will be able to join us again. I have attached a link to an article about Tom that you might be interested in. If Covid protocol permits we hope to have an informal, in person, breakfast meeting at the south side Ihop on Thursday the 23rd. |
