President Keam presents Kassandra Milette with a cheque for $1500 completing our club commitments of 3 student Scholarships. Kassandra is attending the U of A and is a super community volunteer. Kassandra was introduced to Wyatt and will be investigating joining the Rotaract Club as well.  Congratulations Kassandra

SPECIAL REMEMBRANCE DAY CELEBRATION
 
We have secured the entire Varscona Theatre for a performance of 'The Comedy Company" on November 7 (a Wednesday) - see below for the outline and the details  - it is a story about the PPCLI in WW1.
  • At the performance, we are planning to have extensive information available about our club, our projects (Mozambique), and Rotary in general.
  • We are going to invite the military community to attend through the Military Family Resource Centre - a cross-section of our community that we have not really tapped into for new members.
  • We are going to encourage Gateway members to bring guests that they think might make a good Rotarian.
  • Deb Jack has a friend in Calgary who is the creator of the memory project in Calgary with the crosses on Memorial Drive (Deb has more details on this.  He is being honored by the PPCLI with a 21 gun salute for his efforts this year as he is named Citizen of the Year.
  • Deb has asked him to come and speak to our club at our meeting on November 7 in the morning, then a shortened version at the start of the play - where Dave Keam will also speak about Gateway and what Rotary does in the world - to encourage the guests to learn about Rotary during the intermission and chat to a member.
  • We know you usually get a speaker for the Remembrance Day meeting but are hopeful this will work just as well as November 7 is our meeting closes to Remembrance Day.
  • ......whew - that is about all of it!  coffee if you have time - would be nice to catch up!  Deb can fill in the spots about the fellow from Calgary.

Company members were asked by their commander to put together a comedy/musical revue to entertain the troops to boost morale. During some of the most difficult fighting of the war they would conceive, write and perform comedy sketches and musical parodies to lift the spirits of the soldiers. With the help of surprisingly realistic comedy scenes and startlingly pretty cross-dressing performances they would become wildly popular.
