Rotary Feb16 22 We had a disappointing turnout (only 5 members) for a great speaker on Wednesday February 16. President Elizabeth was unable to attend (she was in Ontario having breakfast) so president elect Judy Wilson chaired the meeting and she did a great job. Our speaker this week was Shirley Lowe. Shirley is a historian and she gave us a very informative presentation on the history of Edmonton from the grant of a charter for Rupert’s Land (all land that had rivers or streams that drain into Hudsons Bay) by King Charles II to his cousin Prince Rupert, through the building of forts, subdivision of land by the Hudsons Bay Company, land booms, arrival of the railroad and merger of Edmonton and Strathcona. Fascinating stuff. |
