What a great meeting we had on Junbe 2. Our guest was Jesse Lipscombe. Jesse is a local actor and activist. Jesse was on the news a few years ago when he was the subject of racial slurs while filming a commercial in Edmonton. From that event he started the “Make it Awkward” movement. The premise is for well meaning people to confront racist comments and make it awkward. https://www.facebook.com/groups/539058500097306/ Jesse is now promoting a board game he calls “Not that Funny”. The object of the game is to educate us in a fun, safe and non confrontational way. He has just completed a successful Kickstarter funding campaign and the game is now in production. After his presentation we had a great conversation about racism, dealing with that guy at work who says insensitive things and breaking down barriers. If you did not make it to the meeting, you missed a good one. |
