November, 2004:

I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Alberta, with a focus in Environmental Biology and a minorin Latin American Studies.

While I was in high school I had the opportunity to experience the realities of sustainable forest management, wildlife biology, and biological field research (specifically in the area of northern aquatic ecosystems). I discovered that I really engaged in and enjoyed this type of work.

In Grade 11 I went on a student exchange to Mexico, and I was again exposed to an atmosphere that I really connected with. I chose to go into Environmental Biology so that I could eventually engage in research looking at specific ecosystems and organisms and broad approaches to addressing sustainability from environmental, social, and cultural perspectives.

I am also focusing on improving my Spanish language skills as well as taking historical and cultural studies classes specific to Latin America. I hope to be able to combine these two areas of study with my love of travel and the outdoors and involve myself in conservation efforts and research in Latin America.

I am very grateful for your contribution, as I feel validated for the path that I am taking.

Thank you very much.
