Unconscious Bias and Diversity in the Work Place

Juan is a native of Columbia and emigrated to Central Falls, RI as a child with his family. Juan worked his way through the ranks of Scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle as a member of a designated “Scoutreach” unit, Troop 3 Central Falls- a very rare accomplishment. Juan’s accomplishments caught the Narragansett Council’s attention and Juan was hired as a Program Assistant to lead programming for the Scoutreach program serving inner-city youth and families. Juan successfully rose through the professional ranks at the Narragansett Council and was promoted to the number 2 position as Director of Field Service. After just over two years of tenure in that position, Juan interviewed for and won the top position of Scout Executive for the Chattahoochie Council in Georgia. Juan’s energy and knowledge has caught the eye of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Council; Juan is now working with their Diversity Training Team and also the Chairman of  the Board of Trustees for the Scout Executives’ Alliance. Co-Founder of the LISTOS Resource Group.  A national BSA resource group of Latino professionals in the BSA.

Juan has two children, a 16 year-old daughter, Jamilah and a 11 year-old son, Julian.
