Organ Donation Awareness (in person)

Kelly DeMello lives in Bourne, MA; attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a Bachelor's in Environmental Science and graduated in 1999; and again, for a Masters in Facilities Management, graduating in 2011. She currently works for her alma mater as the Assistant Director of Co-op in the Career Services Department.  She is a mom of 3 and wife of a merchant mariner, also from the Academy.  The last three years Kelly has run the Falmouth Road Race in support of New England Donor Services and Team Donate Life New England.  These charities are near and dear to her...kidney.  In 2009, Kelly donated one of her kidneys to a close friend and shipmate from Mass Maritime.  As she approaches her 13th transplantiversary the reality that the life of her donated kidney is finite is setting in.  It inspires her to share the story of organ donation in hopes to spread awareness for the need.
