Do you want a car that is low in maintenance, that does not need to have its brakes replaced, doesn't need to stop at a gas station to fill up -- all it needs is for you to "plug" it in -- than an Electric Car is what you need.
Trent Tigetmeier visited Lincoln East Rotary Club on January 8th to tell us about electric cars. Trent himself has been driving an electric car since 2010. Trent was born in Burchard, NE on a farm. His first job was working as a food distributor before becoming a car salesperson for Sid Dillon.
So if you are looking for a low maintenance car, you will need to get yourself an electric car. Trent has driven eight electric cars and says they are not for long distance, so be sure you have an extra car, that does use gas, as a spare. An electric car can cost you from $30,000 - $40,000. If you want an electric car that goes further than 130-140 miles, which is the basic electric car, then you will be paying a higher price.
One of the latest models has a "Around View Monitor" which uses four cameras, where the system displays a virtual bird's eye-view of your vehicle on a LCD monitor, so you can easily squeeze in or out of just anywhere. It also has a Propilot Assist which helps to keep a preset distance from the car ahead of you and keeps you centered in your lane.
An electric car can have you saying "good-bye" to high gas prices. the electric motor (110kWh) can deliver torque instantly when you step on the pedal for no-lag accelebration. Just think, you don't have to have oil chanage and your battery usually doesn't need changed. Your brakes will never out because if you release your foot from the pedal it will stop. The only thing you need to do is make sure your rotate the tires. How much electricity does it take, that depends on how fast you drive, how much you use the AC in the summer and the heater in the winter. Your biggest problem is to make sure you know where you can locate a "plug-in station."
The electric car can be plugged in at 110 volts, which takes longer to charge; 220 volts, which takes less time than the 110 volts. If you need it charged quicker, there are a few "quick" plug-in stations. Many hotels, grocery stores and a few other places do have the plug-in stations.
If purchase or lease an electric car there aare rebates available ranging from $7,000-$14,000 and the Federal Government also has a rebate of about $7,500 which can be a tax credit or a rebate, depending on how you get your electric car.
So what is your next car going to be?
