Christa Yokum will present information on the Welcoming and Belonging Strategic Initiative for Lincoln

District 2 County Commissioner, Christa Yokum, will address our group this coming Wednesday to inform us about the Welcoming and Belonging Initiative that the City of Lincoln started in 2022.  Lincoln has a fair number of immigrants who have settled here.  Come, find out how we are working to assimilate them and make them part of our community.

Gretchen Bren's talk on Wednesday was informative and inspiring.

Gretchen Bren, our new District Governor, gave us an inspiring talk and a new framework for evaluating our projects.  Gretchen has been very involved in the Polio eradication project for Rotary for many years, making 15 trips to various places to work on polio immunizations. The world is down to one remaining wild strain (out of 3 initially) in Afghanistan and Pakistan with only 18 cases reported this year so far.  Rotary is really making progress!

Gretchen pointed out that our projects in the past have created lasting impact on the future in Lincoln, and challenged us to try and predict the impact of future projects for the community as we choose what to do next.  She also wants us to consider how we think about our belonging in Rotary, realizing that every member finds different aspects that keep them engaged.

Lastly, Gretchen mentioned several upcoming dates that we all might want to get on our calendars:

October 23 & 24, 2026  --  Fusion 5650 (our 2026 District Conference) in Ashland at the Strategic Air Command

John Ockenfels, whose Rotary Flight to End Polio journey circled the globe in a single engine plane while raising more than $2 million for polio eradication will be the Key note speaker Friday, with Paul Harris and the Fellows entertaining under the SR-71 during the evening reception.

May 27-31, 2028  -- Rotary International Convention will be in Minneapolis, MN.  Close enough to drive!

Save the Date for The Dictionary Project

Lincoln East Rotary will again be participating in the dictionary give away to 3rd graders. The night to get them ready will be Tuesday, September 29 at St Paul's United Methodist Church at 11th and N.  Time to start will be announced.  Please plan to be there because many hands make light work!
