Secretary Robert Evnen

Secretary Evnen, was sworn in as the 27^th Secretary of State of Nebraska, on January 10, 2019. Secretary Evnen has many duties, which include serving as Nebraska’s chief protocol officer for international relations. In that role, the Secretary promotes commerce, educational studies and cultural exchanges between Nebraska and the world. In addition, the Secretary of State oversees: business services, elections, licensing, rules and regulations, records management, international relations, youth services, keeper of the Great Seal, and various others duties serving and chairing state boards.

Prior to becoming elected Secretary of State of Nebraska, Secretary Evnen was a notable labor attorney, practicing labor law for more than 40 years. He was a partner with Woods & Aitken LLP, a downtown Lincoln law firm, for 32 years. Secretary Evnen served for eight years on the Nebraska State Board of Education.

Secretary Evnen resides in Lincoln. He and his wife Debra have three adult children and three grandchildren.

Tony Anton

June 5th , at Lincoln East Rotary, Tony Anton , a retired Railroad Engineer spoke about the veteran groups and the color guards for area veteran funerals. This is a huge endeavor and Tony is usually in the color guard. His dedication to this project truly reflects our motto " Service above Self".

Through your membership in Rotary, you get The Rotarian which has great stories about what Rotary is doing around the world. Through your own club you get The Spoke which informs you of upcoming speakers, current events and if you missed a meeting, you learn about the speaker and his/her topic.

Lincoln East collects “Happy Dollars” each week for polio plus. Did you know that $4.00 per person helps one to get inoculated to end polio. Here at Lincoln East, you have the opportunity to share your interest, get speakers that find interesting, and share your talents within the club. Each holiday season, we collect for People City Mission, Salvation Army, and Matt Talbott Kitchen & Outreach. We meet each week at The Garage from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Lincoln East has it’s own Foundation which helps with some of our special projects each year.

Some of the projects we are invoiced in are the SunFun picnic which is done each summer for the children with disabilities who attend a program through the Lincoln Parks & Recreation Department. We have and are currently working with the Lincoln Parks & Recreation in planting trees around the city. We have worked the football concessions, cleaning up the YMCA Camp Kitaki, worked on an outdoor music station at Camp Kitaki with other clubs, raise and take down flags at the Veterans Garden, gave $50,000 to put up new stands at the Veterans Garden for memorial bricks, and on the International, side we started the Zambia Project which has grown over the years, support schools in Uganda.

There are several ways you can get a make-up if you can't attend a meeting in person and I encourage you do one of these:

1) Join us in a Zoom meeting (See the link in this newsletter)

2) Attend a meeting at one of the other clubs:

a) Lincoln Club 14 -- Tuesday (Noon) - 230 N. 12th Street, Suite 1

b) Living Spirits Club -- Tuesday (6:00 pm) -- JCMF Children's Charities, 8445 Executive Woods Dr., Suite B

c) Lincoln South - Friday (Noon) -- Venue Restaurant & Lounge, Private Dinning Rooms, 4111 Pioneer Woods Dr.

3) Attend a service project or social event during the respective week.
