- Topic -- A review of the past 150 years of the governing control of the land called Palestine, and now called Israel. The main focus will be the political movements within the area since 1945, with emphasis on "news and commentary" of recent months.
Lyle Schoen is a retired minister, who served the United Methodist Churches for 43 years. He retired from the ministry in 2019. This is about his eighth trip to the Holy Land. Lyle was born in Wahoo, NE.
Lyle’s topic was “A Christian Pilgrim in the Land of Jesus.” You will see a few photos that he took and the some of the sites mentioned in the Bible. Some of these sites related to the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth as mentioned in the Gospels of the Holy Bible of the Christian Faith. Are you ready for a tour? Here we go.

For the past several years illegal aliens have been featured in the news and in political speeches. How does the immigration of foreign-born individuals impact our country? I was surprised to find that in 2021 26.6 percent of people living in California were foreign born. Closer to home, 7.4 percent of people living in Nebraska were foreign born, while 5.4 percent live in Iowa. The lowest percentage is in West Virginia at 1.6 percent. The best numbers I could get regarding legal immigrants was in 2019. That year there were 2,490,237 new immigrant arrivals, excluding tourists and unauthorized aliens. In 2021 there were 24,044,083 Naturalized citizens living in the United States, and 629,300 were naturalized in 2020. And in 2020 there were 406,478 unauthorized people removed or returned. Those aliens sent back to Mexico or Canada are classified as returned, while aliens sent back to other countries are classified as removed.

Pre-conference starts on Thursday, March 30 with a performance by a man who is changing the world through music. YoY o Ma, a renown cellist, will be performing at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Rotary will be given a special rate to attend.

“Rotary’s Got Talent” social and performances by our own renown 5650 stars. There will lots of fun and an opportunity to raise funds for polio. There will be tours of Nebraska Innovation Campus, which will be the home of 2023 District Conference. The tours will be held before the Friday social event.
