September 16 Guest Speaker Kwame Gyamfi!

Join us in the Lincoln Room at the Venue!

Kwame Gyamfi has held many roles in his career, including campus supervisor, high school football coach, African American Caucus sponsor, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity facilitator, and Student Advocate. In 2021, he helped write the African Studies curriculum for Lincoln High School.  Currently he serves as the Executive Director at the
Community Justice Center and is a recent Citizens University Fellow.  He is the creator of the Human Connection Strategies program at Civic Nebraska and the student-driven Future Harvest program at Northeast High School.  In addition to his work in education and community leadership, Kwame is an award-winning writer, African historian, public speaker, artist, and business owner. His book, “Prism of Perspectives: The Life and Names of Kwame Gyamfi,” is available on Amazon.   Kwame will be telling us about his work with the Community Justice Center.

Many thanks to John Spatz for his informative talk on Wednesday!

John Spatz who is the Executive Director of the Nebraska Association of School Boards gave us an informative talk about all the different aspects of responsibilities of the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB).  He also showed us a lot of data about why Nebraska schools and as a result the future Nebraska workforce will be facing increasingly large problems with not having the necessary well-adjusted manpower to man the businesses in our state.  The data he showed supported the statement that Gen Z is less healthy, less happy, and less cognitively developed than their parents were at the same age.  Also for the 1st time in history of standardized cognitive measurement, children are consistently scoring lower on many key measures of cognitive development.  He led us to question our ability to “cut” our way out of the problems we are facing and advocated we consider alternative ways to approach the budgetary problems we face as a state.

Congratulations to Dennis Schmidt!

Our very own Dennis Schmidt entered 5 art pieces at the State Fair and went home with 1 blue, 2 red and 2 white ribbons!  Check out his Facebook page.  Congratulations, Dennis!
