Our new district governor, Gretchen Bren, will address our club during our lunch meeting this coming Wednesday.  She will be filling us in on her life in Rotary and on her goals for her year in office.  Please plan to join us in person or on zoom.  We want everyone to hear what she has to say!

Many thanks to Amanda Barker and Randy Bretz who improved our understanding of The Weave Project!

The Weave Project that is starting to give grants through the Lincoln Community Foundation with a grant from The Aspen Institute has nothing to do with weaving cloth.  It is about weaving the social fabric in our community of Lincoln, Nebraska.  Amanda and Randy (both Rotarians!) explained that the Community Foundation will be giving out $4000 grants to people in Lincoln who have ideas for ways to build community relationships that will hopefully lead to increased trust between community members across religious, economic and political divides.  If you are a “weaver” you can apply for a grant at Weaver Awards Lincoln Portal.  The deadline is August 10  –  coming soon!  If you have someone to nominate, you can do it today, Aug 5, in the same place.  They are looking for people who are bringing neighbors together so that they know one another and can build trust in one another.  If you have an idea, apply!

Amanda also let us know about a documentary viewing The Lincoln Community Foundation and Civic Nebraska are sponsoring of Join or Die, a 90-minute film unraveling the journey of legendary social scientist Robert Putnam’s “Bowling Alone” research and the importance of community connections in America.
