Stories
Mary Hilton

Mary Hilton is a  At-Large Candidate for Lincoln City Council.  Mary is running against ten other people for the at-large council seats.  She told a story about her grandmother who felt she needed to step-up to make a difference in her community many years ago, so Mary is following her grandmother's footsteps.  She has been looking at conservative issues and studying issues that effect our city.  She currently lives around about three police officers who were working this past summer when protestors damaged the Lincoln Mall and how some community leaders held back on helping get the protestors off the street.

Lincoln East Rotary Club

The Disaster of Waste

You’ve probably all been following the story of the AltEn plant in Mead which apparently used treated seed (with pesticides) to produce ethanol instead of corn as most ethanol plants have been doing.  Then, you know that a combination of overflowing wastewater lagoons and silt byproduct and manure used as fertilizer for neighboring farm fields has caused major problems.
Ironically, the feature article in Rotary this month was wastewater mismanagement in rural America.  The lack of sanitation affects the health of these rural residents, often poor, people of color, and marginalized communities.  Please see page 38 of Rotary, March 2021.
