Ryan Sothan, Outreach Coordinator

Nebraska Attorney General's Office

As Outreach Coordinator within the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, Ryan has statewide responsibility for developing and implementing community-based initiatives for educating Nebraskans in the areas of consumer fraud, elder financial abuse, predatory and illegal business practices, identity theft, and Internet safety.  Educational outreach services are extended to an average of 20,000 Nebraskans annually through presentations to groups of all sizes across the state and at numerous expositions and fairs including the Nebraska State Fair.  Ryan’s thirteen years of service within the Attorney General’s Offices spans three administrations.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In his spare time he works hard at elevating a high-handicapper’s bad golf game into an art form.
John Chapo

John told us that he started volunteering at a zoo in Indiana when he was 15 years old. He came to Lincoln 37 years ago and has been working in zoos for about 50 years.

John Chapo spoke to us about the Lincoln Children’s Zoo which was a vision of Arnott Folsom.  In 1959, Arnott Folsom had a vision to create a family destination where thousands of children and adults could interact with nature. With a donation from himself and his wife as well as the help from community leaders, Lincoln Children's Zoo was founded. Opened in the summer of 1965, the Zoo became a place where children could get up-close to animals and surround themselves in scenic gardens.
