Square Meter Photography Project

Chris Helzer, The Nature Conservancy’s Director of Science in Nebraska talked about the Square Meter Photography Project which took place around Aurora, NE.  Chris showed us many photos that he took of animals, flowers and the prairie.

First Chris asked everyone what came to mind when you say "Prairie."  I am sure that some of us would think wild flowers, very distinctive birds, bison, etc.  Some think flat fields of grass or grasslands.

President's Message

Lincoln East Rotary Club

We need to re-think the meal charges.  We collected $167 for the food for which were were billed $249.75.  They charged 20% service charge ($38.05), and then 2% occupation tax (on the food plus service) and then 7.25% sales tax on the combined total, food, + service + occupation tax!!  Is this legal or not! The charges on the food come to $59.50, which is an additional 31.3%.  To break even we need to charge $2.00 to everyone (eating or not) for water.  Perhaps order less water?

  • For the $8.95 meal we need to charge $8.95 x 1.313 = $11.75 plus $2.00 for water = $13.75.  Add 0.25 to round up to $14.00.
  • For the $9.95 meal we need to charge $9.95 x 1.313 = $13.06 plus $2.00 for water = $15.06.  Subtract $0.06 to round down to $15.00.
  • For the $10.95 meal we need to charge 10.95 x 1.313 = $14.38 plus $2.00 for water = $16.38.  Subtract 0.38 to round down to $16.00.
  • Adding $2.00 for attendance is on top of these prices.
If we had charged these meal prices at today's meeting we would have collected $227.00 from the eaters.  Still shy $22.75 because we did not charge for non-eaters to drink, and these prices are at or below break even because of rounding.

What do you, as members of Lincoln East Rotary Club, think?  Please email Sue at sunshine525484@twc.com what you thoughts are about the meal prices.  The Board of  Directors will be discussing this at their meeting next week.
