President Dennis Message
Lincoln East Rotarians:

We had an enjoyable on-line Zoom meeting this week with 24 of us in attendance - and a couple of guests.  It was a great meeting where we shared our own stories and the stories of those in our families who served in the military.  The range was from the Revolutionary War to those currently serving, all branches were included, and some fascinating stories of those being held in POW camps and of survival.  For me, the most meaningful comments were for those who did not return from war -  and the reminders of their empty seats at the dinner table this holiday.

We continue our service with raising of the flags for the Veterans Memorial Garden and the lowering and stowing of the flags and poles on Tuesday morning.  Many of us are continuing with the delivery of the Meals on Wheels.  We are also finalizing the District Grant for 2020 - 2021 Rotary year.  And, as we continue our service, we need to seek new members who, during the Coronavirus, have just started their life of service to others.  These persons would make great candidates for our club.

On the 19th, Jerry and I were on-line for the District Annual meeting.  We have in place, the next District Governor, the Governor Elect, and the Governor Designee.  The budget was approved and the District continues to move forward even though we are socially distanced.  I will meet tomorrow, one last time, with the other Lincoln Rotary Club Presidents.  I will be the first to say that the communication between the Presidents has been a great help to me this year.

Another reminder, please turn in your dues and membership form to Dick Cumming.  We also need speakers for the next few months, so if you know of someone who can present a program, via Zoom, please let Minnie know so we can schedule their presentation.

We next meet, socially, on Wednesday at 11:45.  The Zoom ID is 872-0534-6748 and the password is 069655.  If following us via your phone the call in number is 408-638-0968.

Have an enjoyable Memorial Day, see you next week,

Dennis

Wonderful Lincoln

I’ve had the privilege of delivering Meals on Wheels for Tabitha during the pandemic and I have found it an enlightening and satisfying experience.  As I live far South, I do not drive through the North neighbors and pleased to see a variety of unique houses and well-kept neighborhoods for the most part.  The recipients live in decent houses and apartments, which is good to see.  I suspect many are supported by the Lincoln Housing Authority.  It is clear that the tenants are elderly and needy.

I am so pleased that the they are being served by so many organizations.  Tabitha does a great job of managing this service.  The food needs to be purchased, then prepared and packed for those that deliver the meals.  This requires much coordination.

There are many organizations in the community that work together, such as Matt Talbot Kitchen, the Salvation Army, Good Will and others to serve the community.

Of course, Rotary serves Lincoln in many ways, also.

We can feel proud to live in such a community.  Of course, there are unmet needs, but we are on a positive trajectory.  Let’s keep it up.
