President's Message

Lincoln East Rotary Club

The privilege of getting back to Valentino’s requires some commitment from our members as well.  We can only use the front (main) entrance now.   That’s one of the reasons I moved the Board of Directors meeting to 11:00 as that’s their opening time so we won’t have to worry about getting inside through the side door which we aren’t to use anymore.  Most importantly, we must never come in through the kitchen (back door).  This is really against Health Department rules.  Val’s tells me that another restaurant in town lost their health permit for this reason.  So, if you ever find yourself outside the front (main) door and can’t get in for a meeting, please just call me on my cell phone at 702-524-7199 and I’ll come to open the door.  Thanks for your cooperation on this Health Department issue.

Dick Cumming told us about how we could help the Food Bank of Lincoln today.  Read the additional information to learn more of what Lincoln East Rotary plans to do.  Thanks Dick for heading this up.  Dick report that he has been receiving some checks.  Did you know that $1.00 will take care of three meals.

Did You Know?

This plaque of Paul Harris, founder of Rotary International, is embedded into a sidewalk in Washington, DC.
Can you Answer "YES"
During the 1980-81 Rotary Year, Rotary International came up with this questionnaire.  Can you say "YES" to these questions.  If you can answer "YES" to all seven items you rate as "a Rotarian who cares."

1.  Do you sit at a different table each week?
2.  Do you attend club and committee meetings regularly?
3.  Have you given a "Who am I" talk?  (We call them autobiographies)
4.  Have you attended a district conference?  A district Assembly?
5.  Have you visited at least two other clubs this year?
6.  Have you looked around for a prospective member?
7.  Could you inform a new member adequately about Rotary?  (If you can answer "yes" only to #7, you're way out of the ordinary)

Please keep the following Rotarians in your Prayers and Thoughts:

Barry Stelk -  Doing alright;  Had the first treatment of his second cycle, out of four cycles. The plan is to finish his fourth cycle in mid-October; thus far, no loss of hair, smell, appetite, etc., which is good; goes for short walks around his neighborhood.

Mike Carr -  Doing fair, but, not as good as he hoped; doing therapy for knees and going to doctor appointments.  I volunteered to bring him to Rotary and he said that sounds like an idea, when he is allowed to come, due to COVID-19.

Al Burdick -  We were to welcome Al back today at our Rotary Meeting.  Al, continue to improve and take care.

We should continue to keep all of our teachers, school officials, and students, EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve those poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.

If you know of any of our members you would like for us to mention who are ill or need a prayer, please let Greg know and we will put it in the SPOKE.
